Rick Brunson Not Really Sure Which Day Was 'Take Your Son To Work Day'
"I thought it was a Thursday"
NEW YORK — NBA assistant coach Rick Brunson admitted Monday that he is still not entirely sure which day Take Your Son to Work Day falls on, but confirmed that whatever day it was, it appears to have gone extremely well for his son Jalen.
"I thought it was a Thursday," said the elder Brunson from the Knicks' practice facility, in an office located directly down the hall from his son's office, which is larger. "Maybe a Wednesday. Either way, Jalen seemed to really take to it."
Rick Brunson, a journeyman NBA guard turned assistant coach, said the original plan was for Jalen to observe a morning shootaround, get some lunch, and head home. He estimates this was sometime in 2022. Jalen, now in the fourth year of a $156.5 million contract, has yet to leave.
"He's a hard worker, I'll give him that," Rick said, watching his son run a late free throw session. "I did not anticipate the contract. Or the billboards. I thought I was being a good father."
The Knicks declined to confirm which day of the week the original visit took place, citing competitive sensitivity. Rick Brunson said he intends to check his calendar, but noted that most of his calendar these days is blocked off for film sessions that he attends in the same room as Jalen.
